Botulinum toxin is a highly effective treatment used to reduce the appearance of static wrinkles, providing smoother skin and a more youthful appearance. This minimally invasive procedure involves precise injections of botulinum toxin that temporarily relax targeted muscles responsible for facial expressions, effectively smoothing out dynamic wrinkles caused by aging and muscle movements. At the Aesthetic Medicine Clinic, our leading expert doctors and certified injectors are dedicated to helping you achieve your beauty goals without the need for cosmetic surgery!
WHAT CAN BOTULINUM TOXIN INJECTIONS TREAT?
Thanks to botulinum toxin treatments, we can significantly reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines in various areas. Main injection areas include:
- Vertical wrinkles between the eyebrows (frown lines)
- Horizontal wrinkles on the forehead, also known as forehead wrinkles
- Wrinkles around the eyes (crow’s feet)
Additionally, botulinum toxin can also be used for the treatment of hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), especially in the underarms, hands, and feet.
Our experienced doctors will conduct a careful examination of your facial anatomy, including the masseter muscle, frontal muscle, and depressor muscles, to recommend combined treatment options tailored to address your individual needs and aesthetic goals. This ensures we achieve effective wrinkle reduction in the most natural and safe way.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE INJECTION OF BOTULINUM TOXIN
TREATMENT DESCRIPTION
When injected, botulinum toxin type A is an effective solution that causes localized muscle contraction inhibition in the treated areas. In cosmetic medicine, this procedure smooths away pronounced wrinkles that can make the face appear tired or stressed, thereby restoring a naturally rested and relaxed appearance. This toxin treatment helps to limit muscle contraction locally, which is why botulinum toxin is primarily used to treat expression lines on the face.
ANESTHESIA
A Topical anesthetic cream may be applied if necessary.
TREATMENT DURATION
Following a detailed examination of the face, your doctor will carefully inject doses of botulinum toxin into the selected areas. Each treatment lasts about 15 minutes. For a more precise and pain-free treatment, we utilize an automatic injector called the Juvapen, a state-of-the-art robotic-assisted injection device designed for precise and accurate botulinum toxin treatments.
By enhancing injection accuracy, Juvapen helps achieve optimal results while minimizing the risk of side effects. This advanced device is suitable for both aesthetic and therapeutic applications of botulinum toxin, ensuring a safe and effective treatment experience.
NUMBER OF SESSIONS PER TREATMENT
A session of botulinum toxin injection is generally followed by a follow-up appointment 15 days post-treatment to ensure optimal results.
SIDE EFFECTS
While side effects are generally minimal, some patients may experience slight transient asymmetry, heaviness in the eyelids, or minor bruising and redness. These side effects are temporary and typically resolve quickly.
RESULTS
Results usually begin to appear within 2 to 4 days after the injection with the full result appearing after 15 days. A touch-up session may be needed to optimize the final result. The effects of botulinum toxin gradually diminish, and the muscles recover their normal activity approximately 4 months after treatment. For sustained results, we recommend repeating the treatment every 4-6 months.
Before and After the Treatment
Before the Treatment:
- It’s essential to have a consultation with a licensed and experienced practitioner to assess if the treatment is suitable for you and tailor the procedure to your needs.
- Your doctor may advise discontinuing certain medications, especially blood thinners like aspirin and ibuprofen, a week before your treatment to minimize the risk of bruising.
- Avoid drinking alcohol 24 hours before the treatment as it can increase the risk of swelling and bruising.
After the Treatment:
- During the first 2 hours following the treatment, avoid massaging or pressing hard on the facial muscles of the treated areas. This ensures the botulinum toxin settles in properly in the injected areas.
- Refrain from lying down for at least 2 hours after the procedure to prevent the toxin from migrating to unintended areas.
- For the first two days after injection, avoid intense physical activities like exercise, saunas, or hot baths for 24 to 48 hours.
- Follow your doctor’s aftercare advice for optimal results.
The Treatment Contraindications
Certain individuals may not be suitable candidates for botulinum toxin treatment. Contraindications include:
- The safety of botulinum toxin during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been established, so it’s advised to avoid treatment during these times.
- Individuals with neuromuscular disorders such as myasthenia gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome should avoid botulinum toxin as it can exacerbate these conditions.
- If you have an allergy to botulinum toxin or any of its ingredients, you should not undergo treatment.
- If you have an active infection at the site of injection, treatment should be postponed until healed.
- Individuals with specific muscle or nerve conditions may not be suitable for this aesthetic medicine treatment. Always discuss your medical history with your doctor to ensure you’re a candidate.
Note: It’s crucial to consult with a qualified doctor to determine if you are a suitable candidate for botulinum toxin treatment and other personalized, high-quality aesthetic treatments.
